DOI at Bowker

The ISBN for the Digital Age™
MarketLinks is the first major initiative using Digital Object Identifiers introduced by Bowker since its appointment as a DOI Registration Agency in March 2004. Only Bowker can leverage its flagship database, Bowker’s Books In Print, to generate MarketLinks metadata and other added-value content which create rich contextual links unavailable elsewhere.

For over 130 years, since the introduction of Publishers Weekly, Bowker has been the source of meaningful and authoritative book information for publishers, authors, and book buyers. As the U.S. ISBN Agency, Bowker is committed to offering a new generation of services for publishers who are creating, marketing and selling titles in a digital environment.

In future, to support the use and dissemination of DOIs in the publishing industry, new publishers applying to Bowker for an ISBN prefix will automatically be offered a DOI prefix.

In addition to MarketLinks, other services leveraging the power of DOI technology will be introduced in the near future -- watch for future announcements.
